Employee COVID-19 screening at YEG

Edmonton International Airport, in partnership with Alberta Health and Numi Health, will offer voluntary free COVID-19 screening for in-terminal front-line airport staff

Health and safety are our top priorities, and this is an evolution of our rigorous COVID-19 protocols to have the safest facility we can. This rapid process is designed to screen asymptomatic people only. If you feel sick in any way call Alberta Health Services to determine if you need a COVID-19 test. 

Where: Between Doors 26-27 at the north end of the terminal past the WestJet check-in counters. 

When: Daily, 8 am to 4 pm

Who: YEG staff, tenant staff based in the terminal, front-line staff including security personnel. 

How: Staff must book an appointment online through the provider: Numi Health Booking Website. The screening test process is a shallow nose swab and takes approximately five minutes. If there is a positive result, the person will get a text message within an hour afterwards depending on volumes. If you do not get a text message, your result was negative. 

Frequently Asked Questions for Employee COVID-19 Screening Program

Edmonton Airports applied to a program created by Alberta Health to help improve COVID-19 screening at major business and employment areas and areas with travel implications. Other participants include large businesses, major employers, and continuing care centres.  

Numi will provide your screening results only to the person who takes the test. Your personal results are not shared with anyone. On a weekly basis, Numi will provide information to YEG about the overall number of tests done and it will inform Alberta Health Services weekly of the total number of positive screening results, if there are any. 

The screening site location is in the former Distinguished Visitors Lounge. Airport staff can access the screening by booking an appointment online and following the directions to the site location. 

A RAIC will need to be shown to enter the screening site. If you do not have a RAIC you will need an employee ID or other proof of employment.  

The test is for front-line aviation staff only.

Participants will need to add their cell phone number when they book an appointment to receive their results by text. In the event of a positive case, the individual will receive a phone call immediately notifying them of their positive result and will be directed to AHS for further instructions and to receive a PCR test to confirm their positive status. 

Employees must communicate their positive result with their employer. Employees should follow employer procedures and instructions on when and how to return to work.

The screening is voluntary

No test is 100% perfect. Therefore anyone with a positive result must contact Alberta Health Services to arrange a second test that will be confirmed by laboratory results.

This is an antigen-based test called a BD Veritor System for rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2. It is different from a PCR test used by Alberta Services at clinics which require a laboratory to process. The screening will be done by a shallow nasal swab, performed by a Numi Health Professional. 

Current employees can get the test done off-shift if they choose, but this is not a screening test for travel. This program provides an additional level of defence against COVID-19 in the workplace and should be done around work hours.
