Construction Alert: Road Closures at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) 

Relocated Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) will be completing important infrastructure upgrades.

  • The Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area is relocated to the east side of the Easy Parkade.
  • For those picking passengers up, a new Park & Wait area is located on the corner of Airport Road and Airport Perimeter Road. Driving toward the terminal on Airport Road it is located on the right. 
  • The Departures Roadway adjacent to the terminal (level two) is closed to all public traffic.
  • The Arrivals Roadway on the ground level is closed to public traffic and is for use by buses, taxis, rideshares (Lyft and Uber), public transit and airport shuttles or passengers with accessibility needs.
  • Passengers will need to plan for an additional 3-5 minutes to get to and from the airport terminal using the relocated Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area. Please see the menu options below to plan your journey.

June 11 update: The project is anticipated to be completed by this fall. In addition to the restoration of the integrity of the infrastructure, the new Departures Roadway and Ramp will include aesthetic improvements, increase accessibility, add safety features such as bollards in front of the terminal and improve traffic flow by expanding the exit ramp from one to two lanes.

Plan your Journey

How to access the airport terminal

  • If you are being dropped off at the airport, follow Airport Road toward the terminal, follow the signage and turn left before the four-storey parkade to enter the Pick-up & Drop-off Area.
  • Once dropped off, follow signage to use the designated walkway through the parkade that leads to the terminal.
  • The walking journey is approximately 3-5 minutes and involves access to elevators, escalators, ramps and stairways, with benches along the way.
  • To access Departures (level two in the airport), use the ramp, stairs or elevators inside the parkade, or the elevators, stairs or escalators inside the terminal.  
  • Look for our YEG team members who are available to help guide you in the right direction.

Family Loading & Unloading Zone

  • The Family Loading & Unloading Zone provides temporary parking for up to one hour for families or groups who need a bit of extra time being picked up or dropped off.
  • It can be accessed by immediately turning right when you enter the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area.

How to access the Pick-up & Drop-off Area when leaving the terminal 

  • If you are being picked up from the airport, follow signage and use the designated walkway through the parkade to the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area.
  • The walking journey is approximately 3-5 minutes and involves access to elevators, escalators, ramps and stairways, with benches along the way.
  • For those picking passengers up, a new Park & Wait area is located on the corner of Airport Road and Airport Perimeter Road. Driving toward the terminal on Airport Road it is located on the right. Look for signage to guide you.
  • Please proceed to the Pick-up & Drop-off Area only when the passenger(s) have arrived.

Family Loading & Unloading Zone

  • The Family Loading & Unloading Zone provides temporary parking for up to one hour for families or groups who need a bit of extra time being picked up or dropped off.
  • It can be accessed by immediately turning right when you enter the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area from Airport Road.

Accessible Access

We are an Airport for Everyone and provide several accessible options for those arriving and departing. 

  • Passengers with any form of disability or who have accessibility and mobility needs such as wheelchairs, walkers or limitations with walking certain distances, may still use the ground level roadway adjacent to the terminal, now called the Commercial Vehicle & Accessible Access Area.
  • YEG’s Curbside Assistance Program runs 24/7. The Curbside Assistance Program is an on-demand service. Please call 587-920-5193 once you have arrived at the airport.  
  • We encourage passengers to work directly with their airline in advance to plan for any special assistance needed at the airport or if planning to travel with a mobility aid, such as a stroller, wheelchair or walker.   
  • The distance from the accessible curbside parking to the terminal is 44 metres (144 feet). The distance from the taxi queue to the terminal is 15 metres (50 feet). And the distance from the new, general Passenger Pick-up and Drop-off Area is 224 metres (735 feet).

Parking

Parking and using shuttle service is the easiest option for arriving and departing passengers with direct, convenient access to the terminal. Parking is available at:  

  • jetSet Parking  Make a reservation at jetSet Parking (our parking partner) and be guaranteed a parking spot. Shuttle service takes you directly to and from the airport terminal. Save 20% on parking with promo code JETPAST20. Book by October 31, 2023, for travel by January 12, 2024.
  • Priority Valet  – To access the relocated Priority Valet, drive into the Easy Parkade. There are designated stalls for Priority Valet in between the pedways on P3. Priority Valet pick-up will remain at Door 5 on the Arrivals level. 
  • Easy Parkade - Easy Parkade provides covered parking just a few steps from the airport terminal.
  • Value Park -  Long-term parking with shuttle bus service that will transport you to the airport terminal.

Car Rentals

Car rental agencies are located on the ground level of the parkade, outside Door 8. Contact your preferred rental agency for more information and to reserve your vehicle.

Public Transportation

  • We also encourage using taxis, rideshares (Lyft or Uber) or public transportation to get to and from the airport.
  • Route 747 is Edmonton Transit’s direct service from Century Park Transit Centre to the Edmonton International Airport and runs seven days a week. For more information, please visit the City of Edmonton’s website. 

We have several parking options at YEG.

The walking journey is approximately 3-5 minutes between the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area and airport terminal. 

If you are being dropped off at the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area, we recommend arriving two hours and fifteen minutes before a domestic flight and three hours and fifteen minutes before an international flight.

We encourage passengers to check your flight status before arriving, and check in online before arriving at the airport to help streamline the process. 

 

We are working with our partners to carefully minimize overall project duration. Due to the extent of the upgrades needed, this closure will be longer than typical maintenance. Construction will continue into 2024, and we encourage people to check our website and social media channels regularly where we will be providing project updates.

Maintaining and upgrading our terminal infrastructure is an important part of keeping our passengers moving efficiently. Our airport has more than 50 non-stop destinations and important upgrades like this to our terminal will help support further route expansions and growth. The project will include a multitude of construction activities, including resurfacing our roadway, replacing infrastructure and improving passenger experience. 

We’ve made a number of enhancements to the pedestrian pathway from the Relocated Drop-off and Pick-up Area, including a designated walkway through the parkade that is covered.

 

For those picking passengers up, a new Park & Wait area is located on the corner of Airport Road and Airport Perimeter Road. As you drive toward the terminal, it is located on the right. Please refrain from driving to the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area until your passenger is waiting at the curb.

About the Departures Roadway Construction

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) will be completing important infrastructure upgrades to our Departures Roadway on Level Two. Construction will temporarily impact passengers departing from and arriving at the airport. This is a temporary regenerative construction project, and due to the extent of the upgrades needed, this closure will be longer than typical maintenance. We are working with our partners to carefully minimize the overall project duration and construction will continue into 2024.
