Safety and COVID Requirements

Bring your face mask!

Yes, masks are still required for travel. They are required inside the YEG terminal and during your flight. This is a regulatory order from the Government of Canada, please be patient and kind with your airline attendants and other employees if you’re asked to wear a mask. The same rules also apply in the United States and on American air carriers.

A vaccination mandate remains in place. Anyone aged 12 and older who wishes to board a plane in Canada must be able to present proof of full vaccination to your airline or CATSA security if requested.

More information is available here from the Government of Canada.

covid testing

COVID Testing

If you still need a COVID test for travel to your destination, both rapid antigen testing and PCR testing is available at YEG through Numi Health. Find out more information and booking available here.

A COVID test will no longer be required to return to Canada starting on April. 1.

packing tips

Packing Tips

A good trip starts before even leaving home. The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has created a handy checklist for travel that you can bring or email to yourself, including home preparations and travel tips.

Follow these tips from CATSA to help you understand what can be brought through security and what should go in your checked baggage.

Arriving at YEG

  • Plan to arrive 2 to 3 hours before your scheduled departure. It is a good idea to check your flight status online before you leave home.
  • If you can, check in for your flight from home so that you limit the touchpoints in the airport and the amount of time you stand in line.
Many of our check-in kiosks are now touchless and can be controlled via your smart phone.

Here are some tips for a smooth process through security screening:

  • Tag your carry-on and checked baggage with your contact information.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get through pre-board screening, especially during peak travel periods (early morning, noon, and early evening).
  • Leave empty baggage carts outside of the screening checkpoint.
  • Have your boarding pass ready to present for verification. You may need to show photo identification. At some airports, the validation of your boarding pass will be done automatically by a scanner.
  • NEVER joke or make “small talk” about bombs, firearms or other weapons while going through airport security – you could be charged with an offence under the Canadian Aviation Security Regulations.
  • Understand what to expect during a physical search.

Plan your time at the airport. Relax and unwind before your flight, pick up a last minute item or get a bite to eat. Edmonton International Airport has everything you need to keep you comfortable before and after takeoff.
