Edmonton — United Airlines will commence daily nonstop flights between Edmonton and San Francisco, California on February 8, 2006. Tickets are now on sale.

“This new United Express service to our international gateway San Francisco, offers customers one-stop access to markets in Asia and the South Pacific,” says Richard Carret, United Airlines General Manager, Sales – Canada. “As well, from Edmonton, the Hawaiian Islands and our extensive intra-California network are just one convenient stop away.”

“This nonstop flight will help support and enhance our high-tech industry linkages with the San Francisco Bay area,” says Allan Scott, President and CEO, Edmonton Economic Development Corp. (EEDC). “Our tourism industry also strongly benefits from this new service as northern California is also one of our top U.S. tourism markets.”

“United Airlines has acknowledged the support our region has shown for the current nonstop flights from Edmonton to Denver and Chicago,” says Reg Milley, President and CEO of Edmonton Airports. “With the addition of nonstop service to San Francisco, United is now our foremost U.S. carrier offering three nonstop U.S. destinations from Edmonton.”

United Express® will offer the service between Edmonton and San Francisco on its recently launched explus SM brand aircraft. Explus is the only 70-seat regional jet service in the skies to offer the choice between the premium amenities of United First® and the extra legroom of United Economy Plus SM. Customers can enjoy comfortable seating, spacious cabins and additional overhead bin storage. Premium snack boxes will also be served to United First customers on explus flights longer than two-and-a-half hours departing during meal times. Travellers also will have the opportunity to collect and use frequent-flier miles in both United’s Mileage Plus® program and Air Canada’s Aeroplan® program.
