Passenger numbers Spring to record heights at EIA
March 20, 2012 (Edmonton, AB) – With over nine per cent growth, 2012 is already a record setting year at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) with over 91,000 more passengers served than at the same time last year.
Numbers of Passengers Served at EIA by February 29, 2012
¨ Domestic 748,794 = 9.2 % growth
¨ Transborder (US) 211,846 = 11.7% growth(1)
¨ International 100,750 = 6.6% growth
¨ 2012 Total 1,061,390 = 9.4% growth(2)
¨ Business (charter) Aviation 50,933 passengers year-to-date (22.3% growth over 2011)
Notes:
(1) 108,062 in February, the busiest single month ever for transborder traffic at EIA!
(2) New February record of 528,841, over 20,000 passengers higher than our previous February best set in 2008!
In addition to this year’s record growth, spring break is also one of the busiest times for air travel, which makes it more important than ever for travellers to plan ahead to make their travel experience stress free.
“Your vacation can start as soon as you arrive at the airport,” said EIA Vice President of Operations Diane Trenn. “With just a little preparation you can enjoy the spring break you deserve.”
Tips to help travellers move quickly and easily through the terminal:
- Arrive early: Plan to leave earlier than normal for extra time to check-in and clear security.
- Check flight times online: Check if a flight is on time at www.flyeia.com before leaving.
- Check-in online: Most airlines offer online check-in and seat selection up to 24 hours before departure.
- Book parking in advance: Use www.jetsetparking.com and save up to 25 per cent, or pick someone up at the airport using jetSet’s 45 minute free cell phone waiting area.
- Have all the right documents: Check with your airline to make sure you have all the required documents for your destination, and bring a government-issued photo ID.
- Fly through with NEXUS: NEXUS members enjoy faster entrance into the US and Canada. Register online at www.nexus.gc.ca or call 1 866 NEXUS 26.
- Tag your own bags: Air Canada and WestJet offer self-baggage tagging to speed up check-in. You can print tags along with the boarding pass at a self-serve kiosk.
