Passenger Numbers Increase by 3.9% in 2000
Edmonton – Edmonton Airports today released preliminary passenger numbers for 2000. In the year 2000, 3.84 million passengers used Edmonton International Airport (EIA). This is a 3.9% increase from the 1999 passenger total of 3.70 million.
Growth was experienced in all sectors with the strongest growth occurring in Transborder (travel between Canada and the United States) and International (travel between Canada and an International destination other than the United States) traffic. Transborder and International passengers grew by 18.2% and 25.3% respectively. Domestic passengers increased by 1.4%.

Edmonton Airports’ long-term activity forecast predicts an average annual growth rate of 2.4% per year. The four-phase Air Terminal Redevelopment Project has been designed to accommodate the year 2015 forecast of 5.5 million passengers.
