Edmonton-Jasper Access Group formed to promote transportation links

Edmonton, Alta. — Skiers and tourists can now access Jasper’s beautiful slopes and Edmonton’s vibrant urban experiences easier than ever with the launch of the Edmonton-Jasper Connector bus operated by Sundog Tour Company.

The new daily door-to-door service between Edmonton International Airport, West Edmonton Mall and Jasper stems from the work of the newly formed Edmonton-Jasper Access Group (EJAG). The group was established to promote the convenience of new ground transportation services such as the Edmonton-Jasper Connector and the VIA Rail Express Snow Train that connect Edmonton and Jasper to the international marketplace, specifically the United Kingdom.

Air Canada’s daily Edmonton-London air service is an important component of EJAG’s marketing strategy, linking Edmonton and Jasper with international visitors.

“Edmonton is the closest urban centre to Jasper residents and visitors where they can experience the amenities of an urban centre, including Edmonton’s vibrant arts and culture scene, festivals, attractions, shopping and professional sporting events,” says Ken Fiske, Vice-President, Tourism, Events and Motion Pictures, Edmonton Economic Development Corp.

Over 730,000 annual visitor nights in Edmonton are directly attributed to Jasper and the other mountain parks, generating over $20 million in spending in the Edmonton region.

Both Mayor Stephen Mandel and Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland were at Edmonton City Hall today to mark the launch and proclaim the important and unique relationship shared by the two communities. Edmonton-Jasper Friendship Week is Nov. 26-Dec.2, 2007 to celebrate the strong partnership between the two communities.

EJAG is a partnership between Jasper Tourism & Commerce, Ski Jasper, Marmot Basin, Decore Hotels, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Mountain Park Lodges, SunDog Tours, Jasper Inn/Maligne Lake, Sawridge Inn, Athabasca Hotel, Mt. Robson Inn, Jasper Tramway, Whistler’s Inn, Astoria Hotel, Edmonton Tourism, Edmonton Airports and West Edmonton Mall.
