New aviation mega-centre to open at Edmonton International Airport

Facility will deliver a new standard in corporate and air carrier facilities

Edmonton, Alta. (Oct. 4, 2010) – A new world-class general aviation facility is on its way to Edmonton International Airport (EIA). Edmonton based Airside Properties Ltd. will build a custom designed aviation complex, which will be approximately 300,000 square feet when complete. The massive new facility, which will see hangar and office pods connected to an upscale fixed base operator (FBO), will deliver a new standard in corporate aviation and air carrier facilities.

Innovative construction methods will allow the custom sizing of hangar pods to connect the storage facilities to more than five acres of secure ramp. Corporate office space with abundant parking will provide connection from groundside to the hangar pods.  Designed by Dialog Design of Edmonton, the complex will cater to the growing need for aircraft storage and maintenance facilities at EIA, for aircraft ranging from corporate jets to Boeing 737s. The first three pods will be between 26,000 to 32,000 square feet in size. York Realty Inc. of Edmonton is managing the aviation-related leasing opportunities.

“We are delighted to announce a premier aviation park that will bring the business and commercial aviation experience to a totally new height at EIA,” said Glenn Woolsey, President of York Realty Inc.

An adjoining full-service FBO will serve hangar tenants and itinerant air traffic. The FBO will provide a complete range of upscale passenger and crew amenities including: a luxurious passenger lobby; pilot lounge and quiet rooms, pre-flight briefing and weather room; conference room; catering;  round support equipment and on-site aircraft maintenance. The FBO brand and fuel supplier will be announced at a later date.

EIA has completed the land servicing for the new aviation park, which will break ground next spring. The land development reflects EIA’s commitment to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support a flourishing general aviation sector. Year over year, general aviation activity at EIA has increased more than 61 per cent.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Airside Properties Ltd. to EIA,” said Reg Milley, EIA President & CEO. “This innovative new facility will help serve the growing need for general and corporate aviation services in our region.”
