New 60,000 square foot hangar takes flight at EIA

Premiere facility will also feature 30,000 square feet of state of the art office space

September 23, 2010- (Edmonton, Alta.) Edmonton Airports is pleased to welcome a new partner and announce a major development to support general aviation business at Edmonton International Airport (EIA). Hangar Development Inc., will break ground on an expansive new 90,000 square foot building this fall, which will provide 60,000 square feet of new hangar space and 30,000 square feet for office use.

“We look forward to serving the demand for commercial, corporate and general aviation with premiere services and facilities,” said Stewart Gillespie, President of the prominent Edmonton headquartered, Chrisen Realty Corporation Ltd., that will act as leasing agent for the new facility. “We have the business expertise and customer focus to customize facilities and services specifically to a client’s requirements.”

The sleek looking $20 million development, which combines the architecture and design talents of Hodgson Schlif Architects Inc., is slated to open in the fall of 2011. Once complete, it will feature enough room and services to manage a wide variety of corporate aviation service needs. Additional amenities include state of the art office space developed to suit tenant requirements, easy access to runway 12-30 and close proximity to the expanded airport terminal, which is currently under construction.

The announcement underlines the growing range of business opportunities at EIA for general and corporate aviation in the Edmonton region. “We are very proud to welcome our newest partner. We’re investing $20 million to develop the land and ensure the infrastructure is in place to support the continued corporate and general aviation growth at EIA,” said Reg Milley, President and CEO of Edmonton Airports. Servicing for the new facility has already begun at the south end of EIA along runway 12-30, which is where the building will be located.
