Heavy traffic volumes expected for May opening of Premium Outlet Collection EIA
Traffic tips for the Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport grand opening week
April 19, 2018 (Edmonton, AB) – The Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport (EIA) will open for business on May 2 at 10:00 am, which will add traffic to the roads around EIA. To handle this additional traffic, EIA has worked with the surrounding municipalities, Alberta Transportation and the mall owners, Ivanhoé Cambridge and Simon, to construct additional roadways, traffic lights and related infrastructure. Typical peak shopping mall traffic also occurs at different times of the day than peak vehicle traffic to the airport.
During the first few days that the Premium Outlet Collection EIA will be open, there will be many people coming early to shop and many people finding their way around EIA for the first time. This will cause extra traffic volume from May 2 to May 6, similar to airport traffic during the holiday season.
Therefore, travellers should allow extra travel time to get to the airport.
