Only four days remaining to support non-stop European connection

Greater Edmontonians who want scheduled non-stop flights to Europe from Edmonton International Airport have just a few more days to stand up and be counted.

The FlyEuro partnership of Edmonton Airports, Edmonton Economic Development Corp. and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce encourages regional residents to vigorously support this effort by completing an online questionnaire designed to help assess our region’s air travel demands and identify a base of European air travellers.

To date, just over 2,800 completed questionnaires have been returned. Campaign supporters are hoping for a total of 4,000 respondents by the deadline – September 16, 2005.

By completing the questionnaire — and forwarding it to friends and colleagues — participants will help demonstrate significant demand for non-stop flights between Edmonton and Europe.

“This will be a powerful tool to use with airlines in demonstrating that scheduled, year-round, non-stop service will be successfully embraced by our community,” says Reg Milley, President and CEO of Edmonton Airports.

“Flight data show most regional residents and business people who have travelled to Europe in the past year have not yet completed the questionnaire,” notes Allan Scott, President and CEO, Edmonton Economic Development Corp. (EEDC). “The lack of non-stop, scheduled European flights is a common complaint in our region and now is the time for all of those people to be counted.”

“”We’ve heard, time and again, how important direct European connections are for Edmonton,” adds Ruth Kelly, Chair, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “If there was ever an opportunity to state the case for local business — to make your voice heard — this is it.”

The partnership asks Edmonton area residents to complete the questionnaire if they: 1) have travelled to a destination in the U.K. or Europe, or used a U.K. or European airport as a connecting point, anytime within the past five years, or 2) anticipate a trip to the U.K., Europe, or beyond within the next two years.
