Emergency Response Services handle simulated explosive at EIA – Training Exercise
Role players and Emergency Disposal Unit help train emergency responders
(Edmonton, AB) – Emergency Response Services were put to the test today, as they responded to a simulated explosive threat at Edmonton International Airport (EIA). The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit responded in the mock emergency scene.
“Safety and security are core values at EIA because they are critical to success. Practice exercises allow our passengers to fly knowing that EIA and our emergency response partners are ready to handle any situation. We are also accountable to Transport Canada for ensuring that we practice emergency response plans with the RCMP, firefighters, Emergency Medical Services, airlines and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority,” said Steve Rumley, EIA Vice President of Operations and Infrastructure.
Air North airline staff, local volunteers, and emergency responders from Leduc County and the City of Leduc also participated in the exercise. EIA emergency crews are trained to respond together with community partners to deal with emergencies in the Capital Region.
