EIA gets fired up

Fire, smoke, victim actors and a burning aircraft help train emergency responders

June 4, 2013 (Edmonton, AB) – Edmonton International Airport’s (EIA) Emergency Response Services were put to the test today, as they responded to a simulated plane crash.  The Mobile Aircraft Fire Trainer (MAFT) was used in the mock emergency scene.  The MAFT is a fully-contained system that can help provide training in controlling and putting out fires.

“Regular practice exercises allow our travellers to rest easy knowing that EIA and our emergency response partners are ready to handle any situation. It’s part of our commitment to safety and security for the community,” said Steve Rumley, EIA Vice President of Operations and Infrastructure.

Delta airline staff, local volunteers, and emergency responders from Leduc County and the City of Leduc also participated in the exercise.  EIA emergency crews are trained to respond together with community partners to deal with emergencies in the Capital Region.
