Edmonton — Edmonton Airports, the Edmonton Aviation Heritage Society, Alberta Aviation Museum and ATCO Frontec are pleased to announce Airfest 2003, to be held on Father’s Day, June 15, 2003 at Edmonton City Centre Airport.

In celebration of 100 years of powered flight, Airfest commemorates humanity’s dream of the seemingly impossible — harnessing the power of wind to defy gravity and soar into the sky. This vision set in motion a century of performance and realization in aviation achievement sought since the beginning of time. The Airfest partners and sponsors are proud to promote and highlight our region’s aviation achievements through this wonderful family event.

This free event held at Edmonton City Centre Airport will feature a unique fly-in showcasing 50 various aircraft, interactive family-oriented events, and a multitude of historically significant event exhibitors. A trade show highlighting aviation industries from Edmonton and the surrounding region, along with free access to the Alberta Aviation Museum will also be provided for families and aviation enthusiasts alike.

Airfest runs Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hangar on Kingsway. For more information, contact 451-1175 or visit www.albertaaviationmuseum.com.

A banquet, themed “A Gathering of Eagles” will be held Saturday evening in the historic Alberta Aviation Museum. The evening will feature a catered dinner, along with special guest speaker Scott Crossfield, the first man to exceed Mach 2 and the first test pilot of the X-15 space plane. Mr. Crossfield, a National Aviation Hall of Fame member, and World War II fighter pilot was one of 6 test pilots who founded the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and also held senior management positions at Eastern Airlines and Hawker Siddley.

The Gathering of Eagles dinner will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 6:00 pm. Tickets are available for $100.00. For more information or to purchase tickets call Barb at: 453-1078.
