Edmonton International Airport Welcomes FedEx To the New “Cargo Park”
Edmonton – FedEx Canada and Edmonton Airports today opened the new FedEx 36,200 square foot integrated cargo handling facility at Cargo Park at Edmonton International Airport.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to satisfying the needs of our customers here in the West and supports our goal of continued growth,” said Don Colleran, President of Federal Express Canada Ltd. “Our investment in the facility was spurred by the significant economic growth in the region, and we foresee a bright economic future for Edmonton and the Northern Alberta market.”
The new FedEx facility will more than double the size of the company’s airport operation. The aircraft gates, which can accommodate both B-727 and widebody aircraft, are located directly beside the new facility, greatly reducing the time required to transport freight to/from the aircraft.
FedEx is the first carrier to locate at Cargo Park, which is designed to accommodate additional cargo terminal facilities. The Centre was developed to meet the growing needs of numerous domestic and international all cargo airlines.
“We extend a warm welcome to FedEx, the first tenant of our new, dedicated Cargo Park,” said Scott Clements, President and CEO of Edmonton Airports. “This new dedicated cargo centre will enable FedEx to better serve its customers in this growing region and demonstrates Edmonton Airports’ commitment to developing cargo opportunities.”
