Edmonton — America West Airlines announced today that it will introduce new daily non-stop service between Edmonton and Las Vegas commencing March 1, 2004. This is the second new non-stop U.S. service that America West has announced for Edmonton this year. America West introduced new non-stop service between Edmonton and Phoenix in October.

This new destination will offer travellers access to America West’s extensive network through its Las Vegas hub to 47 destinations in the U.S., Mexico and as of Dec. 1, 2003, San Jose, Costa Rica. Las Vegas is America West’s second largest hub, and is the #1 United States outbound destination for travellers from Edmonton International Airport.

This new year-round, non-stop scheduled service offers significantly enhanced customer service and schedule options, particularly for business and convention travellers. The evening departure time permits connecting travellers to connect through Las Vegas overnight and arrive at their final destination the following morning.

“America West has been enormously satisfied with our Edmonton to Phoenix service. We are pleased to announce additional trans-border service between Las Vegas and Edmonton,” said Dion Flannery, America West Airlines vice president, scheduling, route planning and Internet distribution. “America West commends the capable Edmonton leadership group. They were instrumental in demonstrating the region’s need for a high-quality, low-cost carrier’s direct service.”

Edmonton Airports president and CEO Scott Clements states: “We are proud to celebrate the outstanding service that America West has offered to Edmonton travellers. This new Las Vegas service is one of only two non-stop Las Vegas services that America West is introducing in Canada. This demonstrates the strong commitment that America West has made to Edmonton, as well as the support that Capital region travellers have shown to this excellent low-cost carrier.”

America West Vacations also offers packages to destinations throughout the Southwestern U.S, Hawaii, Mexico and Costa Rica. America West’s worldwide partners include Big Sky Airlines, British Airways, EVA Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Mesa Air Group, and Northwest Airlines.

The Edmonton-Las Vegas route will be operated on an 80-seat Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) 900 series, which features six first class seats and 74 coach cabin seats. America West is the first North American carrier to receive delivery of the modern CRJ-900 series aircraft. This aircraft will also serve the Edmonton-Phoenix route.
