Edmonton — America West announced today that it will introduce new daily non-stop service between Edmonton and Phoenix commencing October 20, 2003. Edmonton Airports congratulates America West on this new service, and looks forward to welcoming the airline to the Capital Region.

This new destination will offer travellers access to America West’s extensive network, through its Phoenix hub to 92 destinations, spanning from Southwestern U.S. destinations into Mexico. Phoenix is currently among the strongest U.S. destination markets, and is well known by Edmontonians as a respite from winter. This new destination also offers inbound tourism opportunities from the Southwestern US into Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and the Northwest Territories.

America West’s connectivity to popular Southwestern U.S. destinations including Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas, also means expanded opportunities for Edmonton and Northern Alberta travellers. The U.S. Pacific and Southwestern regions are the largest transborder market areas for Edmonton, accounting for 51 per cent of the total transborder air traffic (source: Stats Canada).
Edmonton Airports President and CEO Scott Clements states: “We are proud to welcome America West to Edmonton. America West’s convenient connections to California and Mexico offer great new options for our region’s business and leisure travellers.”

America West Vacations also offers packages to destinations throughout the Southwestern U.S., Mexico and Hawaii. Its worldwide partners include British Airways, Northwest Airlines and EVA Airways.

The Edmonton-Phoenix route will be operated by America West’s regional partner – America West Express, also known as Mesa Air on a 64-seat Canadair Regional Jet, which features six business class seats and 58 main cabin seats.
