ACI-NA Announces Winners Of The 2002 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Awards Contest
Norfolk International Airport Secures Highest Honour
Washington, DC – Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) today announced the winners of its 2002 Marketing and Communications Awards. Norfolk International Airport won the Peggy G. Hereford Award for Excellence, widely recognized throughout the airport world as the highest honour an airport can earn in the communications field. The official presentation to the award winners will take place on Thursday, November 14 during the Chairman’s Honour Luncheon at the ACI-NA 11th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Salt Lake City, Utah scheduled for November 11-14, 2002.
The Hereford award is given in honour of creativity in illustrating the airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences, and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and public relations. Its goal is to spotlight the commitment and dedication of the winning airport’s accomplishments in marketing and communications.
“Overall, Norfolk International Airport highlighted family themes that had a “consistent softness without an edge,” said Juliet Wright, ACI-NA’s Senior Director Public Affairs. “It was especially noted that during this new aviation environment, the airport staff was able to take emotional issues, traditionally associated with airports, and concurrently emphasize the high-level delivery of airport customer service. The judges also commended Norfolk International Airport for its website’s easy navigation and the excellent graphical elements of its television advertising, ” she added.
In addition to winning the Hereford award, Norfolk International Airport took first place in three categories: Print Advertising (Black and White), Television Advertising, and Websites Norfolk International Airport was one of 64 airports that submitted entries in the contest, which encompasses categories that recognize work in marketing and public relations and gives airports the opportunity to be honoured for the quality of their work. Award categories cover the gamut of media including brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns, special events, newsletters, and aviation education and tour programs.
“We are honoured to be the recipient of the 2002 Peggy G. Hereford Award for Excellence. This year has been a challenge for airports, and to be recognized by the judges for our overall marketing and communications efforts is most gratifying and a credit to our creative team, said Kenneth R. Scott, Executive Director of the Norfolk Airport Authority. Airports Council International – North America represents local, regional and state governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States and Canada. ACI-NA member airports enplane more than 98 percent of the domestic and virtually all the international airline passenger and cargo traffic in North America. Over 300 aviation-related businesses are also members of the association, which is the largest of the six worldwide regions of Airports Council International.
