Construction begins on Courtyard by Marriott hotel at EIA
New jewel-inspired design revealed for airport hotel

June 15, 2011 (Edmonton, Alta.) — Platinum Investments Ltd. today unveiled the design and kicked off construction for the new 210-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at Edmonton International Airport (EIA). Slated to open in the fall of 2012, the new top-tier hotel’s exterior features more “curve appeal” and colourful panels.

The hotel will offer more convenience to EIA’s business, northern, connecting and leisure passengers. EIA customers can stay at the hotel the night before their early morning flights or they can arrange business meetings and conferences at the hotel.

“We want to build a jewel at EIA that provides the best customer-service experience for our guests from around the world,” says Ali Meghji, Director, Platinum Investments Ltd. “The exterior is designed to complement the look of Expansion 2012 such as the sweeping lines of the prairie-inspired Combined Office and Control Tower and provide a distinct visual appeal.”

The eight-storey, 175,000-sqaure-foot hotel features:

  • 210 spacious rooms that combine comfort and functionality – regular, executive and royal suites
  • 10,000 square feet of banquet and meeting facilities
  • A full-service restaurant and lounge
  • Airline check-in at the hotel
  • A state-of-the-art fitness facility, an indoor pool and a whirlpool spa
  • Fully wired and wireless Internet services
  • A heated pedway connecting the hotel to the terminal

“This hotel is a milestone in EIA’s evolution and will serve as one of the cornerstones of the airport’s overall expansion,” says Reg Milley, EIA’s President and CEO. “Customers expect a world-class hotel at an international airport and we are excited Platinum Investments Ltd. is bringing it to them.”

Located to the northeast of the terminal, the Courtyard by Marriott hotel will connect to the airport via a heated pedway.

Platinum Investments Ltd. is the general contractor and is seeking local companies to work on the project.

“We’re a local company that always wants to support other local companies as much as possible to ensure Edmonton gets maximum value from our projects,” says Meghji. “We are excited to begin work on this high-profile project that will provide the kind of warm hospitality inherent in the Edmonton Capital region.”
