Airport Express Ushers in Beginning of Commuter Enhancement Program
July 12, 2007 | General
Edmonton— The August 30 opening of Airport Express in the Visitor Information Centre, World Trade Centre Edmonton, marks the beginning of a Commuter Enhancement Program devised to improve access to and convenience of Edmonton International Airport.
The Commuter Enhancement Program aims to facilitate passenger check-in and improve transportation links to and from the International Airport. This is supported through a task force that includes participation by the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Airports and the Province. Stantec Consulting has been retained to provide expertise to the task force.
Airport Express is the first initiative in the Commuter Enhancement Program that, within a year, will implement enhancements to passenger services including:
• the launch of Airport Express
• dedicated priority security lanes for pre-board screening
• dedicated parking within the Parkade
• dedicated exit lane from parking
These initiatives provide the foundation for additional commuter enhancement opportunities that will be reviewed by the task force.
“We are happy to see this first part of the initiative come to fruition,” states Scott Clements, President and CEO of Edmonton Airports. “Airport Express is the beginning of our community’s major enhancement strategy that benefits our region’s air travellers, and we look forward to further enhancement opportunities.”
Airport Express offers two self-serve WestJet and Air Canada check-in kiosks, baggage storage, airport and flight information, and scheduled shuttle service to the International Airport. Airport Express is ideally located in the heart of Edmonton, close to Edmonton’s major downtown hotels, conference centres and government buildings. A downtown terminal facilitates the high volume of business travellers that frequent Edmonton’s core and is the first step towards fully realizing the goals of the Commuter Enhancement Program.
Airport Express opens August 30, 2004. Scheduled shuttles run every 20 minutes, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Air Canada self-serve check-in kiosks are now available. WestJet check-in kiosks are coming soon.
Airport Express is co-located with Edmonton Economic Development Corporation’s Visitor Information Centre on the main floor of the World Trade Centre Edmonton at 9990 Jasper Avenue, in the historic CIBC building.
Edmonton Airports is a not-for-profit organization mandated to manage the region’s airport assets on behalf of and in the best interest of the community.
