A basalt stone carving by Paul Toolooktook.

Paul Toolooktook (1947 – 2003) was an Inuit artist born in Beverly Lake in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut. He established a well-deserved reputation for his basalt stone carvings and graphite/crayon drawings.

ArtistPaul Toolooktook

Paul Toolooktook was born in Beverly Lake and raised in Baker Lake. Paul’s mother, Martha Aptanik, was a carver and a printmaker in Baker Lake. His step-brother, Basil Aptanik, is also a well-known sculptor in Baker Lake.
